Norwegian online art auction raises over 2 million NOK Norwegian arts campaign for the Tsunami victims:
Over 100 of Norway's most prominent artists came together and donated pieces of art for a web based auction. 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Tsunami victims in South-East Asia. The online auction took place from January 8th to January 27th, 2005 through the website, www.ofrene.no. The Norwegian American Foundation helped with marketing and promoting of this great initiative in the US.
Norwegian photographers and artists turned out in large numbers to donate their works to a web based auction for the benefit of the Tsunami victims in Asia. 247 artists made donations of one or more pieces of art. In total, 497 pieces were sold!
- We have received an overwhelming response, said campaign coordinator Kirsten Thorseth Poppe. New pledges were constantly coming in. In addition, all the technical assistance required to establish a web based auction is rendered on a voluntary and non-profit basis. The auction was launched on Saturday, January 8, and the art works were on display at Henie Onstad Art Center outside Oslo on Sunday, January 9. The exhibit space was also made available for free, adds Poppe.
Among the artists were several internationally acclaimed names, like photographer Morten Krogvold and painters Frans and Nico Wideberg and Kjartan Slettemark. The polar explorer Børge Ousland donated photographs from his North Pole expedition.

The initiative to the campaign was taken by photographer Herdis Maria Siegert. The auction and information about the campaign will be posted at the web site http://www.ofrene.no. Funds collected from the campaign will be donated in whole to the Norwegian Red Cross' relief efforts for the Tsunami victims.
