The Port of Drammen is an inland deepwater port situated 45 km south-west of Oslo in the County of Buskerud. The harbor is located at the nothern end of the Drammen Fjord and east of the river Drammen. It is a freshwater port and freshwater is available at every quays.
Local people will tell you that "Drammen was created by the river" and there's no doubt that Drammen's location has made it a natural harbor for many centuries.
The Vikings where using the Drammen Fjord nearly a thousand years ago to bring in the plunder of their foreign raids. The Sagas of Snorre, dating from 1070, describe how the Vikings sailed their longships up the fjord to Drofn, as the harbor was called at that time. |
