Most visitors and sightseeing tours make a stop at Amalienborg to see the four royal mansions (1760) placed around the fine equestrian statue of Fredrik V (1723-66). All visitors can see the Royal Life Guard stationed outside each of the residences. Lucky ones see the guards, marching to their own band, execute the Changing of the Guard at noon when Queen Margrethe II is in residence. Since Amalienborg is used as a royal residence, only a limited area of one of the four mansions is open to the public. Visitors can see exhibits showing how three generations of the monarchy (1863-1947) lived here in rooms that have been faithfully reconstructed. |
